Hi Jenny. You don't know me but, I am John Fox's sister. This strip, "Swan Song, Part 1," really hit home. Last week, my siblings and I, put our biological father on hospice. He has been given 2 to 4 months to live having a glioblastoma. At his age (87), treatment is not recommended. He still wants to do all of the things that he normally did even though he was told not to. Thank you for your story of your family.

Hi Laura. So glad you could relate to it. I am sorry to hear about your father. It's a sad time for sure. I take comfort by helping others by sharing about my experience. I hope you have a meaningful experience with your father.

Hi Denize. Nice to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed the comic about my father. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your mom. Sounds challenging. No, the comics don't have to be nonfiction. I am just oriented that way because of the type of writing I do, but I can help you create fiction comics as well in the class! I hope to see you there. It will be fun.

Since we use photos and put them through filters to tell the story, you will have to come up with real life images to help tell your story. You can ask a friend to be the character or use yourself as a fictionalized character.

Hi Jenny. I just went through the same thing with my 99 year old mother, except none of her doctors would honor her request for hospice. In the end she had to leave the world without the comfort of hospice. I know your story will inspire elders and their families to seek (and get) what they are entitled to when they realize they are the last frail leaf hanging on the tree. I hope to join your class at Book Passage but I have a question: Must the stories be nonfiction in content?
